Sarah Gathings Morton's Obituary
Sarah “Sissy” Gathings Morton, 79 of New London, passed away December 20, 2023 at the McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, NC. The Funeral service will be held at 11AM Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Kendall’s Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Walters and Rev. Kent Little officiating. Burial to follow in the Church cemetery. Her visitation will be from 09:30-10:45AM Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Kendall’s Baptist Church.
Ms. Morton was born January 23, 1944 in Anson County, NC to the late William and Beulah Gathings. Ms. Morton was an active member of Kendalls Baptist Church when her health permitted. She loved her family and never met a stranger. She loved to help anyone in need and loved to share the gospel of Jesus.
Ms. Morton is preceded in death by her husband Fred Lee Morton, Jr. She is also preceded in death by brothers: Monroe, Joe, Junior, Hayward, Bob, and Kermit Gathings and sisters: Kay Short and Francis Gathings. She is survived by brothers: Wayne Gathings and Thomas Gathings (Lynda). Ms. Morton is also lovingly remembered by all her nieces and nephews: Billy Gathings, Patty Ratliff (Anthony), Peggy Hooks (Billy), Danny Gathings (Ellen), Tammy Timmons, Debbie Houston (Scott), George Short (Melanie), Joey Gathings (Barbara), Donna Talbert (Rick), Wayne Gathings, Jr., Tonya Bowers, Tony Gathings (Carmen), Kelly O’Brien (Adrian), Karen Striker (Robert), Jamie Gathings (Tammy), Mellissa Davis (Cory), Perry Gathings and Melina Rouse (Brandon).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ms. Morton’s honor to the Deep Creek Baptist Church New Building Fund: 1280 Beck Rd, Wadesboro, NC 28170
