Born on April 12, 1935, in Stanly County, Roy was the son of the late Afton Burris and Minnie Burris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bessie Clontz Burris, who passed away in 2000, and by a daughter, Janet Connell.
Roy is lovingly survived by his wife of 24 years, Shirley Barbee Burris. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Ann Holland (Jim) of Hickory, NC, and Dale Burris (Sherri) of Mt. Pleasant, NC; his stepchildren, Cardell Barbee (Corletta) of Locust, NC, Kathy Luther (Ron Howard) of Polkton, NC, and Stacy Clontz (Holly) of Stanfield, NC; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Roy was a devoted Christian man who found joy in the simple things in life. He loved working in his yard, caring for animals, driving his old pickup truck, and most of all, spending time with and loving his wife and family.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Cardinal Hospice and Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care and support provided during Roy’s decline. A special thank you is also extended to Dale, April, Cam, Crystal, Jamie Barbee, and Rod Barbee for their constant presence and love shown to Grandpa.
