I met Mr.Russell over 2 years ago when I became his personal homecare aide. We hit it off from day one. He LOVED to talk!! He would talk about his time in the Air Force and how much he enjoyed it, however he didnt talk much at all about his time in Vietnam, understandably so. He loved to go eat breakfast at the Sunrise cafe in Locust or Wayside in Oakboro. In his later days he enjoyed my breakfasts at home. There wasnt many I cooked for him that he didnt like and that made me feel good. I'm no gourmet chef by no means but he enjoyed eating what was prepared. He loved just getting out of the house whether we were going to the VA or just going to haul off trash. He loved his family very much. He spoke of them often. He was proud of his nephews and his niece Patty. She wasnt his blood niece but he always called her his niece. The last few months he became homebound as his legs just couldn't go anymore and so we spent a lot of time at his home eating homemade peach cobblers and watching Match game 76 and Deal or no Deal and Catch 21. Those were his favorites. Sometimes we'd listen to Willy's roadhouse or his collection of classic country cd,s or Elivs gospel. We'd sing along and we'd talk about Jesus. I think Mr. Russell knew his time here on earth was drawing near and he was ready. He would tell me that when tha Lord called him he was ready and I believe that he was and that is in Heaven with his Lord and savior and Joyce #1 and Joyce #2 and he is walking the streets gold!!! HALLELUJAH!!! I'm going to miss my friend Mr Russell. It was an honor to know him and work with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Earlene Lee and daughter Brenda Lee wish to share our heartfelt condolences to Roger’s family. Roger’s mother, Zora Belle, was my (Brenda)grandmother’s , Odie Greene Tucker, niece. We have fond memories of him and his family as their home was less than a mile from Odie and Travis’s home.
