Rev. James Lincoln Potts, 76, of New London passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 in his home.? His funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday, September 8, 2016 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. ?Tom Cheshire, Pastor Ray Hall, Pastor Buck Moore, Dr. Clifford Jordan, and Dr. Rick Walker officiating.? Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory.? The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM on Wednesday evening at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care.
Born July 20, 1940 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Wade Hampton Potts and Beatrice Patricia Smith Potts.? He was the Pastor of Homeland Baptist Church for over 18 years.? Received his Bible Diploma from Carolina Bible College in 1997. He then earned his Bachelors of Theology followed by receiving his Graduate of Theology in 1999. In 2005 he was awarded as an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Victory Baptist Bible Seminary in Hampton Virginia.
Rev. Potts is survived by his wife Linda Mundy Potts of the home.? Other survivors include daughter Donna Marie Potts Shaver and husband Lynn of New London, brother William Monroe Potts of New London, sisters Essie Mae Potts Thornton of New London, and Beatrice Patricia Potts of New London, 2 grandchildren Randy James Potts Jr.and wife Karen and Jeremy Alan Shaver and wife Heather, and ?great-grandsons Ace Potts and Robbie Whitley.? A son, Randy James Potts and a sister Laura Ann Potts Harper preceded him in death.
