I learned last week that this site will only allow a short comment so I'll try not to write too much. Let me begin at the beginning. In the late 1940s my mother and I used to get a ride out to Oakboro to visit the Cobles. We arrive without any prior notice and Zora would come to the door and welcome us in. We'd stay a few days and then get a ride back back to Albemarle. There were a house full of girls as the young boy, the lat of the children, hadn't arrived. Ramona, Evelyn, and all the girls used to take me down to the woods where they'd made the most elaborate playhouses out of bits of tree limbs, pebbles, and bits of glass. Not one thing was bought in a store. Romana was a remarkable lady in a remarkable family.
