Nancy Priester Carpenter's Obituary
Nancy Priester Carpenter, 94, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, March 1, 2026.
Visitation will be at 10am with a memorial service to follow at noon on March 28, 2026, at First Lutheran Church in Albemarle.
Born July 7, 1931 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of Fred Laurius and Lela Mae Vick Priester. She was a graduate of Albemarle High School and Wake Forest University and became a teacher, having taught at Endy Elementary and North Stanly High School. She wed James William “Jim” Carpenter, and became the mother of two sons, Dave and Steve, to whom she was lovingly devoted. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, having sung in the Chancel choir and served on the altar guild for many years. She was an avid tennis player, enjoying many matches with family and friends on the court she and Jim built in their backyard. She enjoyed reading outside on the back deck, playing cards (Bridge Club), and indulging her sweet tooth, but most of all she cherished spending time with her family. She will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and positive attitude.
Mrs. Carpenter is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Jane Priester Hartsell. She is survived by her two sons, David William Carpenter and partner, Bobbie Hatley; James Stephen Carpenter and wife, Kimberly Bassett Carpenter; four granddaughters, Sarah Carpenter (Emily McClain), Laine (Drew) Rendleman, Kathryn Carpenter and Carley Carpenter; two great-grandchildren Ella and Liam Rendleman, brother-in-law, Robert Flake, and several nieces and nephews.
Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care is serving the Carpenter family.
