Melodie (Mel) Ann Backer's Obituary
Ms. Melodie (Mel) Ann Backer, age 51, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Hospice of Union County.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Melodie Backer will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Freedom Biker Church of Monroe, 5113 West Highway 74, Monroe, NC 28110.
Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Serving as a produce clerk for Wal-Mart was her means of employment, but her passion was in serving the community organizations that serves her fellowman. Among those was the fact the she was a member of volunteer fire companies in the communities in which she lived. She was a member of the Spencer Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, and served as a EMT in McKean and Gaston Counties, continuing her re certification through Gaston College.She was a member of several volunteer companies in towns in which she lived in Pennsylvania, among those was Hilltop and Rew Fire Departments. Her academic endeavors, and honors bare testimony to her desire to be current and effective in her volunteer work.
Ms. Backer was born on July 13, 1963, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Miles Lewis and Margaret Dressler Backer.
Melodie was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jess Leroy Backer.
Survivors include two sisters Mary Graham (Todd) of Monroe, and Margaret Dusch (Bob) of Dallas, NC; one niece Amanda Dusch and one nephew Robbie Dusch both of Dallas, NC. Additional survivors include two aunts Caroline Gobbi (Bob) of Bradford, Pennsylvania and Shirley Castanzo (Don) of DesMoine, Iowa.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, October 10, 2014, at Davis Funeral Service in Monroe, 1003 East Franklin Street.
