Lennart " Lenny" Hagesether's Obituary
Lennart (“Lenny”) Hagesether, 85, of Mt. Gilead, NC, died peacefully at home on June 10, 2024.
He was born on August 13, 1938 to Olav and Greta (Pettersson) Hagesether in New York City, NY.
Lenny attended Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, NY, and later attended Suffolk Community College. He proudly served in the US Army, stationed in Korea.
He married Carol Eklind on December 16, 1961 and had three children, raising them in Oakdale, NY.
Early in Lenny’s career, he worked as a union machinist in NY’s printing industry, and later became a specialized mechanics problem-solver for various other industries.
In 1988, Lenny and Carol moved to North Carolina where they enjoyed year-round golf; Lenny is known for his love of the game, even making custom golf clubs.
Lenny will be remembered most for his love of family, summers spent boating to Fire Island with family and friends, his favorite dining spots, enjoyment of wood carving, how he loved to research (and debate) just about every topic, how he cared for his stray cat, “Blackie”, and the way he proudly celebrated his Norwegian heritage. He was happiest when cruising; exploring new places and meeting new people.
Lenny is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of nearly 63 years, Carol; his daughters Lisa (Brian) Tobin, of Mt. Gilead, NC, and Karen (Michael) Ehlinger, of Huntersville, NC; son, Erik Hagesether, of Oriental, NC; grandchildren Kate (Luke) Proctor, of Brooklyn, NY; Christopher Tobin, of Holbrook, NY; Bridget Hagesether, of Chicago, IL; and Reilly Ehlinger (Evan Hager), of Myrtle Beach, SC. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and many friends and relatives. There will be no service; the family will privately lay Lenny to rest at First Lutheran Church Columbarium in Albemarle, NC. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the entire team at Tillery Compassionate Care for its unwavering support during Lenny’s time in hospice care. Memorial contributions may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care, 960 N. First Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
