Finding out that Lenny passed away was heartbreaking ... he remained the very best friend to my dad for over 50 years, and his family is my family. My whole heart is with you, Carol, and with Erik, Karen, Lisa, Kate, Christopher, Bridget and Reilly. I promise, Hagesethers, you can have Wiggy anytime you are missing Lenny's sharp wit or feel in need of a debate! He will pick up right where Lenny left off 🥹 ...
I will hold Lenny in my heart always. Sending love from NY down to you all.
xo, Lauren Hale (Rieckhoff)
Times like this bring so many wonderful memories to mind of the great times we spent together. Looking back to those days will always bring comfort. Lenny was always there for Wig and I.
We’re so fortunate to have shared so many years with our “extended family “.
We’ll always think of Lenny and smile.
Love you all ……
Lainey
So sorry to say…I lost my very best friend!
Our friendship endured for 53 years! We first met through our friendship with our neighbor Brita & Bengt Elkind, Carol’s parents.
Lenny and Carol lived in Bayshore at the time, and I just took to both of them. Memories of playing cards at their kitchen table, watching the kids Lisa and Karen, and showing them the two Huskies we got from Lenny’s cousin Shirley. “Meant to be” as It’s said , when they became our neighbors in Oakdale. Greatest neighbors ever.
Lenny was my hero. Taught me so much. How to fish, build a fence , and a 24 ‘ fenced in dog run. Showed me how to install paneling, and most of all gave me instructions on how to move the 10 yds of dirt in my back yard and then went golfing with the guys in the neighborhood! Who could forget the trip to Brooklyn to pick four 12ft church pews and cut them in half so we could have front door benches, complete with cushions. We made 2 extra benches for two of our neighbors.
Together we started a Sunday morning Men’s Bowling League with 32 people! Lenny was the first to have an electronic calculator he used to figure the bowling averages of the 32 bowlers!
Lenny could make or repair anything. Here’s a guy that didn’t have an Engineering degree, but could build and repair huge complicated machines. He made his own Golf Clubs, hat racks out of golf clubs heads and a piece of wood. He was a master at carving even though his carving hand was severely damaged due to a workplace accident.
He and family all moved to NC , and eventually we followed. His children, Lisa, Karen, and Erik, and their children, Bridget, Kate, Christopher, Reilly, became our extended family, along with Lisa and Karen’s husbands, Brian and Mike.
When he began to fail I couldn’t help him…To say I will miss him, would be a gross understatement.
RIP my friend 😔
Your buddy….Wiggy
Lenny was so much fun to work with during his time with us at H and R Block in Albemarle. He was always smiling!
I have great memories of Lenny when we worked together at H&R Block! So sorry for your loss Carol!
I have such great memories of Mr. Hagesether ❤️ I remember him taking me with his family to Fire island on his boat and Mr. Hagesether rescuing me and Karen as we were swept out to sea on a dingy.I have memories of Mr Hagesether working nights and being too loud and waking him up! He would never yell at us we would just get a look. I was happy I got to see him the last time i visit Karen and Lisa in North Carolina. Rest in peace Mr. Hagesether ❤️Donna
