I met Larry last year during my time at Carolinas Rehabilitation. I had the pleasure of being his roommate and he and his wife had so much love towards Shawanda and I. I didn't have full range of my voice when I introduced myself so he called me James for a while til Shawanda told him my name was Jon. I didn't mind.
He would always make the physical therapist Dana aware how much he loved redheads Lol. He knew he had a good and loving wife in Marjorie and they have a beautiful family. I remember his daughter being a Patriots fan and I remember his grandson. Mrs. Long said they thought the world of us so she had to call. I'm glad he and I kept in touch. I will miss him dearly. He wasn't just my friend he was my brother.

Larry Long loved the outdoors and was a mentor to a countless number of people, most of which, he met in the woods. He was an excellent steward of wildlife and respected it. His abilities with traditional archery equipment were unsurpassed and he is one of the only people I know of that managed to harvest a limit of Wild Turkey by bow and arrow in consecutive years, some of which, he arrowed while laying on his belly. An amazing feat for anyone but even more amazing for around a 300 pound person using a long bow. I had heard the stories of his proficiency with a bow and arrow and had my doubts until I personally saw Larry shoot a bottle cap that he told me to throw. Larry had a wonderful sense of humour and captivated audiences with numerous stories of his outdoor adventures. He was a staunch supporter of the North Carolina Bowhunters Association and many other wildlife organizations but most of all he was a gentle giant and friend to all he met. He will be missed but remembered for all the right reasons and numerous contributions. Well done my friend.
