Joseph "Joe" Ray Cox's Obituary
Mr. Joseph "Joe" Ray Cox, age 98, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016, at his residence.
Graveside funeral services to celebrate his life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Walters Family Cemetery on Landsford Road, Monroe, NC 28112.
Mr. Cox was born on April 12, 1918, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Vernon Hampton Cox and Maggie Inez Pigg Cox. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ailene Emma Rape Cox, who passed on April 10, 1989.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ney Cox and Morris Cox; four sisters, Bernice Cox Chapman, Ruth Cox McNeely, Lois Cox Laney and Margaret Cox Hunter.
Mr. Cox was a farmer and a US WWII Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Hallie Mae Edwards Cox of Monroe, NC; his three daughters Norma Rae Wechsler (Chuck) of Columbia, SC, Vicki Cox Geddings (Warren) of Monroe, NC, and Emma Sue Cox Nash (Steve) of Monroe, NC; his son Joey Cox (Evelyn) of Monroe,NC; three brothers, Lex Cox, Howard Cox (Druann) and Billy Cox; a sister, Joyce Cox Greene; nine grandchildren, Shannon Morrison, David Morrison, Scott Morrison, Kevin Geddings, Wade Geddings, Richie Nash, Beth Nash Kempf, Chris Hughes and David Hughes. There are fifteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM Tuesday Night, June 21, 2016, at Davis Funeral Home in Monroe, 1003 East Franklin Street.
