Carol Finch Boyd
My brother, Joseph Donald (Donny) Finch, 76, (1949-2025), was a Vietnam Veteran. This picture was taken when he was in Vietnam. My mom used to send him care packages/boxes. She would send him things like cool aid and sugar, anything to make the water taste better and to share with his troop. He carefully studied the materials the Army gave him. Unfortunately, many did not return home from this war. I remember one time mom received a letter from him. He was writing to let us know he was chosen to be the “Pointer,” the one who would lead the troop through the jungle, the one who usually gets shot first! We had some extra heavy praying to do! Thank the Lord he survived and came home! I also remember him telling us stories that he and another guy used nothing but a grenade launcher to ward off another troop.
My brother lived through a lot. He lost his wife in 2014, his son, then his daughter, too young, so soon. Thankful for his loving granddaughter, Dreama, who oversaw his affairs in his last years.
