Jerry Jason Long's Obituary
Jerry Jason Long, 85, of Albemarle passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 in Trinity Place.? His funeral service will be held at 3 PM Thursday, May 19, 2016 in West Albemarle Baptist Church with Pastor Adam Hatley and Dr. Clay Waters officiating.? Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.? The family will receive friends in the West Albemarle Baptist Church Family Life Center from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM prior to the funeral service.
Born April 2, 1931 in Rockingham, NC, he was the son of the late D. D. Long and Ruth Cole Long.? He was a graduate of Rockingham High School where he was a star football player for 4 years.? He served as captain of the football team his senior year.? Mr. Long served his country proudly for 10 years in the United States Air Force.? ?He began his career as a jeweler as an employee of the Jewel Box, Inc. where he worked for many years until opening his own store, Long?s Jewelers in Albemarle. ?Mr. Long was a dedicated member of the community and spent countless hours assisting various organizations in Stanly County.? He was involved in starting Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie, volunteered with the American Cancer Society, and the Gideons among others.? Mr. Long was a member of the Board of Directors of Bank of Stanly and served as the Chairman of the Board for a number of years.? He was an active member of West Albemarle Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher as well as a member of various committees.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife Kathleen Morris Long of the home.? He was preceded in death by his first wife Ida Wall Hamer Long.? Other survivors include daughter Linda Loftin and husband Tom of Charlotte, stepchildren Cynthia Noah Lowder, Michael Noah and wife Debbie, Jeffrey Noah and wife Robin, grandchildren Kevin and Kyle Lowder, Allan and Danial Noah, Margaret Asnpach, Ashlee McKeon, Bradley and Brent Frodge and Beverly Almond, great-grandchildren Oliver and Miles Noah, Lillian Lowder, Mary Grace Lowder, and Ansleigh Anspach, and brother Daniel ?Buddy? Long and wife Sally of Hamlet, NC.? He was preceded in death by his step son-in-law Bob Lowder.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie, 960 N. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001, West Albemarle Baptist Church, 336 Church St., Albemarle, NC 28001, or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children- Greenville, 950 West Faris Rd, Greenville, SC, 29605.
