James Campbell Davis, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. James Campbell Davis, Jr., age 80, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at Hospice House in Monroe after a long battle with prostate cancer.
James was the only child of James Campbell Davis, Sr. and Lucille Hicklin Davis. His paternal grandparents were John D. Davis and Daisy Ferguson Davis of Waxhaw. His maternal grandparents were James Roswell Hicklin and Susan Agnes McFadden Hicklin of Richburg, South Carolina. James lived most of his life in the family home in Waxhaw, except for a few early years in Monroe.
He was valedictorian of Waxhaw High School Class of 1951 and attended Wingate College. James went back to school later in life and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy at Chapel Hill, Class of 1973. He practiced pharmacy in Monroe, before retiring to take care of his aging mother.
James was very knowledgeable about family genealogy and family history. He also knew, in great detail, the history of Waxhaw. He was a great storyteller. He also loved the land and spent most of his time keeping up his property and tending a vegetable garden.
James was preceded in death by his father and mother, losing his father at the age of 13. He is survived by numerous cousins and special friends, Roger McCray and Billy and Jan Sellars of Waxhaw.
A private graveside service was held at Waxhaw City Cemetery on May 4, 2014. He is buried in the family plot next to his mother and father.
Special thanks to Hospice of Union County for their excellent and loving care of James in his final days.
Davis Funeral Home of Monroe is serving the family of Mr. Davis.
