I am so sorry for your loss. Although, I do not know your family personally, I would like to share some encouraging thoughts from the Bible. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3-4 states, And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death and we will be able to see them again once they resurrected as per John 5:28-29. May these words give you a new hope.
It was my pleasure to serve with Hattie in Suriname. We had wonderful prayer times together. She had the ministry of "helps" and was a great encourager and a dear friend. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain.
Egbert and Hattie were the first to welcome us to Suriname, while we flew from Miami to Suriname in 1983. Our interaction with them through the next 6 1/2 years was characterized by genuine welcome and encouragement. We pray for comfort for you, her family members and close friends but also rejoice with you that Hattie is now with her Jesus, and reunited with Egbert! What hope that is for you and for all of us! One day we will be enjoying the presence of Jesus and singing the Hallelujah chorus in worship of our King, Jesus!
I have precious memories of all the Dyk family from the late '50s when my parents, Bob & Joyce Goerz, were on Jungle Camp staff with them. Trudie and I were best pals then, and Aunt Hattie always had a sweet smile and kind word. She and Uncle Eg made me feel like part of their family, including nicknames and teasing. They were much closer to us at the time than our "real" relatives whom we rarely saw. I know she is experiencing incredible joy now in the presence of the Lord, and likely meeting up with dear ones who have gone before, including my dad who went Home recently. Blessings on all her loved ones who must bear her absence.
I didn't know Hattie but I enjoy the fruits of her labor in the form of beautiful flowers at the Waxhaw Creek Retirement Apartments where I reside. Even now, there are beautiful Peony and Rose bushes that are bursting with blossoms. Often I've heard people who knew her say, "those were Hattie's flowers." Dear Dyk family,We remember with great fondness your dear mothe. We remember her laughter, smile and positive outlook, her steady confidence in the Lord and her optimistic outlook on life. Your parents were on staff when we took our Jungle Camp training in 1958. Our son Dave, now 59, loved them so much when he was about four, he wanted to go back with them after being in Mexico City, as he thought they needed a boy! Hugh visited them in Suriname and they visited us in our Santa Ana home in the 80s. We were also happy to visit Hattie in Orlando several years ago and we kept track with each other by email for many years. We always considered your parents to be the salt of the earth and uniquely gifted for service with Wycliffe. They were a blessing to all who knew them, and to us personally.
Dear Hattie, what a blessing you have been in my life! How I loved our times together, enjoying the wisdom of your years with the Lord. And now you are with the One Who loved you the most. May you enjoy the wonderful fellowship of those you helped into God's Kingdom as you all praise Him. Looking forward to the day we are together again joining in with you praising Him forever!
Hattie longed for her Heavenly Home and I know there is a grand reception going on there. She welcomed us, the Nickels, when we arrived in Suriname in 1976 and what fun we had there with Egbert and their daughter Carolyn. To be allowed to serve with her at JAARS in later years, was such a privilegeHer prayers for us and our children David and Jenni, were out of this world.
To Carolyn and all of the family -- I loved Hattie and enjoyed being her friend at Waxhaw. Carolyn, I was the one who met and took you to the airport several times. I will be praying that you will have a peace in her "homegoing" and knowing she is re-united with your father. She was a very special lady. I missed her so much when she moved from Waxhaw.
