Gregory James Ott's Obituary
Gregory James Ott, 64, of John’s Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle. Burial will follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Oakboro. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle.
Greg was born August 10, 1961, in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and was the son of the late Charles Edward Ott and JoAnne Elizabeth Thein Ott. He retired from Alcoa, where he began his career working in Badin, North Carolina, and later worked out of Knoxville, Tennessee. Throughout his career he was known for his dedication, knowledge, and strong work ethic.
Greg will be remembered by his family and friends as an intelligent, devoted, and loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor, proudly earning the title of the “King of Dad Jokes.” Patient and dependable, he rarely complained—except perhaps when asked to go shopping. A hardworking and remarkably handy man, Greg seemed able to fix almost anything and enjoyed understanding how things worked. He was also a day one Carolina Panther’s fan since 1995.
He had a deep appreciation for music, especially the sounds of Jimmy Buffett, Boston, INXS, and the hits of the 1980s. Greg loved spending time outdoors, whether bird watching, riding his bike, or working on projects—particularly restoring and tinkering with his beloved 1950 Chevy truck. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed reading and was always curious about the world around him. Greg also found great joy in cooking, grilling, and baking for his family, creating meals that brought everyone together.
Above all, Greg cherished the time he spent with those he loved. His generous spirit, steady presence, and quiet kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Amy Eury Ott; two daughters, Courtney Ott of Black Mountain, NC, and Chandler Ott of Charlotte, NC; three siblings, Charles E. Ott, Jr. (Dianne) of Pittsburgh, PA, Marian Ott of Pittsburgh, PA, and Timothy A. Ott of Sewickley, PA; and a nephew, Andrew Ott of Pittsburgh, PA.
