Dorothy Davis Godwin's Obituary
Dorothy Davis Godwin, 93, of Wingate passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Brookdale Senior Living Monroe Square. Her funeral service will be 2 PM on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Davis Chapel with Rev. Frank Crump officiating. Burial will follow in Faulks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 PM prior to the hour of the service.
Born August 6, 1931 in Union County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Claude Ellis Davis and Arnecie Baker Davis. She was employed by Yale Norton for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 and a half years, Lonnie Benton “Junior” Godwin in 2019. Survivors also include a daughter, Sherry Fonvielle (Wayne) of Durham, NC, a daughter, Sandra Webb (Ed) of Apex, NC, a son, Kevin Godwin of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, four grandchildren; Caroline Hipple (Josh), William Fonvielle, Evan Webb, and Benjamin Webb, as well as one great-grandchild, Georgia Hipple, brother Jerry Davis (Alice) of Wagram, sister Sarah Huneycutt of Oakboro, and sisters-in-law Peggy Davis of Monroe and Frances Davis of Charlotte. She was also preceded in death by siblings Peggy Huggins, Claude Davis Jr., Bobby Davis, and Lewis Davis.
Although flowers are appreciated, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
