Don Mitchell Russell, 78, of Locust passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Atrium Cabarrus in Concord. His funeral service will be 2 PM on Friday, April 16th, 2021 at Albemarle First Assembly with Pastor Bob Gruver officiating. B Read Obituary
Our sincere condolences to Gina and family. We were saddened to hear of Don’s passing. Certain people in life make everlasting first impressions and Don was one of these. Our first Sunday visiting First Assembly in 2007 Don and Gina I think were the first couple to greet us and many Sundays after that day, I’ve always respected Don’s work for the Lord. May God Bless Gina and their entire family during these difficult times.

I want you to know I've been praying for you and your family. I have a great respect for Don and will always remember him fondly. He is one of the few individuals in my life that made such an impact that I clearly remember the first time I met him. In 1999 my dad was undergoing a major surgery in the hospital. My mom had passed away about a year before. I was at the hospital, by myself waiting through my dad's surgery which was to take several hours. Don saw me there and came over to me and said "Don't you go to First Assembly?" I hadn't met him before and didn't remember seeing him, but he remembered seeing me around church. He was there and his mother was being treated, but he took the time to come over to me and ask why I was there and to tell me he'd pray for my dad. That was the first time I met him and it made a big impression on me, as well as many things I've seen him do since then. I just wanted to share that with you, and for you to know I will continue to pray for you and your family.

The first time I ever saw Don was in the men's Sunday School Class at AFA! The book they were using each man having bought his own, I didn't have. Don slid his copy across the table to me and allowed to use his and participate in that class my very first time there! I will never forget him for that simple act of kindness1
On at least a couple of occasions I expressed my appreciation to him for that!

I am so sorry for your loss. I would like to tell everyone that knew Don I am sorry you have lost your Godly friend. If you were with Don,right away you knew Don loved his savior..Don walked with God every day..As God laid a burden on his heart he moved with God to solve this burden. Don Russell you are happy, you are now at the feet of Jesus..
