Charles G Frye's Obituary
Charles “Charlie” Gilbert Frye died Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the age of 85 in his longtime home of Albemarle, N.C.
Born on December 5, 1937, in Concord, N.C., to Nellie Blackwelder Robinson and Lester Harlen Frye, Charlie was preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Lowder Frye, and his three daughters, Susie (Rodney) Furr of Albemarle, N.C., Amy (Jonathan) Berry of Greensboro, N.C., and Sally (Lee) Elliott of Walnut Cove, N.C. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Josh Furr of New London, N.C.; Kati Furr of Richfield, N.C.; Adelaide Elliott of Walnut Cove, N.C.; Fisher Elliott of Walkertown, N.C.; Amber Elliott of Rochester, N.Y.; and Parker Berry of Greensboro, N.C. Three great grandchildren, one sister – Mary Anne Brines of Concord, N.C. – and friends for miles around survive him as well.
A graduate of Concord High School and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Sciences, Charlie spent 57 years of his life in funeral services first at Weddington & Mitchell Funeral Home of Concord, N.C., and then at Stanly Funeral Home where he spent 50 years serving the community. Charlie also worked with the Albemarle Zoning and Adjustment Board from 1987 to 2012, was active in several civic organizations and a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church.
A private burial is scheduled for Wednesday, March 22, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. open to all at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel led by Reverend Adam Hatley. Visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Rye Brook, N.Y., Roy Hinson Levine Cancer Center – Stanly Atrium Foundation, Hospice of Stanly County or the West Albemarle Baptist Church Special Needs Class. The family would also like to thank the staff of Wake Forest Baptist’s Leukemia Unit, Stanly Atrium’s Outpatient Surgery Unit, the Roy Hinson Levine Cancer Center and Hospice of Stanly County with special thanks to Dr. Gary Schwartz for the gracious support and care provided to Charlie.
