C.W. "Bill" Wade, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. C.W. (Bill) Wade, Jr., age 78, of Monroe, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, NC.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Mr. Wade will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Davis Funeral Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Reverend Shannon Duncan and Dr. John Jones.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM at Davis, prior to the ceremony.
Mr. Wade was born on January 21, 1939, in Cherokee County, North Carolina, a son of the late Clarence Willis Wade, Sr. and the late Olera Roach Wade.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Ann Wade.
Bill was a lifelong musician who played piano and sang with numerous groups, including The Original Kingsmen, The Kensmen, South Side Quartet, and Spirit Wind. Most recently, he served as Director of Music at Higher Ground Church, Indian Land, SC for over 20 years until his retirement earlier this year. In recent years, he enjoyed performing alongside fellow local musicians on Saturday evenings at Trull's Place in Monroe.
In addition to music, Bill was an avid sports enthusiast. His love for playing basketball began at an early age, continued through collegiate and semi-pro careers, and extended into a recreational level in his fifties.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Jones Wade of Monroe; a daughter, Dr. Tamara Wade-Harbin (Jonathan) of Monroe; a son, Springs Wade of Asheville, NC; a brother, Robert G. Wade (Suzie) of Red Bank, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital or to Hospice of Union County.
