Betty Stone Huneycutt's Obituary
Betty Stone Huneycutt, age 94, of Albemarle, NC, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 24 at 2:00 PM in the Bethany United Methodist Church graveyard.
Betty was born October 19, 1931 in Robeson County, NC to the late Edward Stone and Nora Bell Odom Stone. Betty was a graduate of New Hanover High School, then completed her degree at James Walker Nursing School in 1953 in Wilmington, NC.
Betty began her nursing career in Wilmington, and worked in various hospitals throughout NC. In 1958, Betty married Dwight and began her long career at Stanly Memorial Hospital. During this time, she taught Health Occupations at Stanly County Schools.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Huneycutt of 42 years as well as her son Douglas G. Huneycutt of Concord, NC, and siblings Charles Stone and Dorothy Stone Schmid.
Betty enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. The shining stars in her life were her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty’s love language was to cook and bake for family and friends. Sunday suppers at her house with her sons and grandchildren were a cherished memory for her. She is remembered to be one of the most loving individuals, an angel on earth, helping and showing compassion to anyone in need.
Betty is survived by her son Graham E. Huneycutt of New London, NC, granddaughters Madison (Hector) Gonzalez of Corbin, KY, Mackenzie Huneycutt of Charleston, SC, Carlyle (Cameron) Brantley of Gainesville, GA, and three great-grandchildren Channing, Lincoln, and Luke. She is also survived by nieces Cheri Schmid-Grosz, Lydia Schmid Saunders and special friend Kathy Kolk.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church in 2411 US HWY 52, Albemarle, NC.
