Alice Delcina Howell's Obituary
Alice Sellers Howell peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Born on April 6, 1946, in Albemarle, North Carolina, she was the beloved daughter of the late Artis Sellers and Gracie Hyatt Sellers, who preceded her in death.
A graduate of Kingville High School's Class of 1965, Alice later completed Nurse’s Aide courses at Stanly Community College. After beginning her career in Albemarle, she worked at various times in both North Carolina and Washington, D.C., serving others with dedication wherever she could.
Alice lived life to the fullest and carried a loving, forgiving spirit that touched everyone she met. Kind and warm, she was equally known for her sharp wit, quick comebacks, and unmistakable charm. Laughter followed wherever she went, and her vibrant personality drew people in. Her home reflected the pride she took in keeping it neat, clean, and welcoming. Music—especially old-school classics—was one of her greatest passions. Whether family and friends gathered for a celebration or simply stopped by for a visit, her familiar request was always, "Turn Some Music On!" Dancing, laughing, entertaining, and creating lasting memories brought her great joy. Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, resilience, forgiveness, and joy.
Alice was previously married to Carey Howell. She later shared a special bond with Kenneth “Kenny” Polk that spanned more than 40 years. Though life sometimes led them down separate paths, they remained loyal friends, always finding their way back to one another through mutual love, respect, and unwavering support. Kenny, who preceded her in death, forever held a cherished place in Alice's heart, and the connection they shared endured throughout their lives.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy McLendon, Cleora Hamilton, Eugene Sellers, Artis “June” Sellers Jr., and Henry “Bill” Ponds; as well as her beloved granddaughter, Katarra Motley.
Left to cherish Alice's precious memory are her loving daughters, Tara Sellers Motley (Erik) and Kendra “Kim” Sellers; devoted siblings, Curtisteen Sellers of Washington, D.C., Robert Sellers and Archie Sellers of North Carolina, and Carolyn Matthews of Maryland; cherished grandchildren, Tavis Sellers (Paris), Talaya Sellers, Kennez Motley (Aigner), Shawn Sellers, and Erik Motley Jr.; beloved great-grandchildren, Tavis Jr. (“Tank”), Germarcus, Dakota, Kennez Jr. (“Rio”), Keeden, Savannah, Golden (“Solar”), and Gracie; and great-great-grandchildren, Amari and Alaya.
Alice also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love.
Alice also leaves behind her lifelong friends, Patricia “Ann” Taylor of North Carolina and Deloris McCormick of Massachusetts, whom she loved as sisters. Rooted in childhood, their unbreakable bond endured through the years, strengthened by love, laughter, cherished memories, and unwavering support.
Her love was a gift. Her memories are a treasure. Alice will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
