Zula Mills Almond's Obituary
Zula Mills Almond, 94, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday October 8, 2015 in Spring Arbor of Albemarle. Her funeral service will be 3 PM Sunday October 11, 2015 at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Anderson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM prior to the service at Stanly Funeral Home.
Mrs. Almond was born November 1, 1920 in Stanly County, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Jesse Thomas Mills and Victoria Sides Mills. She worked at Wiscasset Mill and was a member of Anderson Grove Baptist Church for 81 years. She liked to knit, crochet, garden and enjoyed flowers. Mrs. Almond and her husband loved to eat at Bojangles, enjoyed fishing and spending time at Ocean Lakes Campground, Surside Beach.
Mrs. Almond was preceded in death by her husband Joe Almond. They were married for sixty nine years. Survivors include a son, Larry Joe Almond (Donna) of Albemarle, two daughters, Jovaughn Almond Fisher (Butch) of Clover, S.C., and Beverly Joyce Almond Allen (Thomas) of Henderson, N.C.; five grandchildren, Larry Joe Almond Jr., Mitzie Dawn Almond Almond, Tina Koren Fisher Hall, William Joseph Allen, Nicholas Alexander Allen; 3 step-grandchildren, Cheryl Burr Talbert, Keith Leroy Burr, Janet Lynn Burr Pederson; seven great-grandchildren, Derek Lane Almond, McKinley Brooke Almond, Brandon Joe Wallace, Richard Lee (Rich) Almond Jr., Emily Dawn Almond, Cameron Edward Hall, Leah Jade Hall-Hernandez; seven step great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jared, John Worth, and Graham Talbert, Taylor and Michael Pederson; three nephews and six nieces. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Grady, Cecil, Hubert Mills and male twins unnamed, five sisters, twin sister, Lula Mills Kimrey, Inez Mills Hinson, Dovie Mills Ingold, Adille Mills Ingold, and Besse Mills Mauldin, and one step great-grandson, Dalton Burr McSwain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Heart Association at 4217 Park Place Ct. Glen Allen, VA. 23060, or to charity of choice.
