William Gary Efird's Obituary
William Gary Efird, 75, of Albemarle passed away Monday, August 1, 2022 at Atrium Health Cabarrus in Concord. The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 5 from 6 PM to 8 PM. His funeral will be Saturday Aug. 6 at 11 AM at the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle with Rev. Danny Laws officiating. Burial will follow the funeral at Stanly Gardens of Memory.
Born October 21, 1946, in Stanly County, he was the son of the late Grover Efird and the late Virgie Scott Efird. Mr. Efird served his country and the state of North Carolina honorably in the Army National Guard for 15 years. During and following his military service, he worked as a crane operator at Alcoa where he retired. He then moved on to the Albemarle Correctional Institute where he attained the rank of Sergeant before retiring again, then lastly working as a bailiff with the Stanly County Sheriffs Office. He loved the people he worked with and was well loved in return. Mr. Efird was a member of South Albemarle Baptist Church where he had previously served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his son, Andy Efird (Sharon) of Albemarle, three grandchildren, Ross Efird, Holli Efird and Jacob Efird; two great-grandchildren, Dakota Efird and Tyler Furr; sister, Sue Broadway, sister-in-law, Christy Taylor Hopkins (Michael) of Albemarle and son-in-law, Charlie Heun of Albemarle.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Efird is preceded in death by his wife, Carlotta, daughter, Loretta Huen brothers Wayne, Max, Jimmy, Louis, and sister, Barbara.
Memorials may be made to South Albemarle Baptist Church at 1005 S 2nd St. Albemarle, NC 28001.
