Walter Howard Cox's Obituary
Mr. Walter Howard Cox, age 90, of Monroe, formerly of Matthews, North Carolina, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017, at Carolinas Healthcare System-Union in Monroe, NC.
Graveside funeral services to celebrate his life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Walters Cemetery on Landsford Road in Monroe, officiated by Elder Dennis Reynolds.
Mr. Cox was born on November 14, 1926, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Vernon Hampton Cox and the late Maggie Pigg Cox. He was raised on a farm in Union County with eleven brothers and sisters. Howard was drafted into the Army during WWII, and served in the Philippines. He worked as a welder for many years at Standard Crankshaft and retired from American Crankshaft in Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his four sisters Bernice Chapman, Ruth McNeely, Lois Laney and Margaret Hunter; and his four brothers Ney Cox, Joe Cox, Morris Cox and Donald Cox.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Druann Crook Cox of Monroe, NC; his son Walter Edward Cox and wife Debbie of Mint Hill, NC; his daughter Deborah Cox Forbis and husband Bryan of Charlotte, NC; his four grandchildren Shane Cox and wife Melissa, Jaime Cox Pence and husband Justin, Trent Forbis and wife Ashley and Blair Forbis Stickley and husband Greg; his six great grandchildren Landon Pence, Brooklyn Pence, Kenlee Pence, Madelyn Cox, Macie Stickley and Aubrey Stickley; his brothers Vernon Lex Cox and Billy Carson Cox; his sister Joyce Cox Greene; his sister-in-law Catherine Cox; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night, November 1, 2017, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Davis Funeral Home, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
