Virginia (Rachel) Lomax Swaringen's Obituary
Virginia (Rachel) Lomax, Swaringen, at the age of 97, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023. Born in Stanly County, North Carolina, she was the youngest daughter of the late Calvin and Fannie Kimrey Lomax. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Swaringen, and seven siblings, Grady, Lomax, Maude Efird, Cora Mae Chance, Pauline Dayvault, Macie, Hearn, C. A. Lomax, Jr., and Willie Lomax. Surviving is her nephew, Wayne Chance (Vivian), nieces, Kay Gaddy, Gail Snuggs, Judy Furr (John), Joyce DeBerry, and Porsha Smith (Nathan).
Rachel grew up and lived most of her life in Stanly County. She was an active member of Randall United Methodist Church. Her career was as a sewer in local textile mills. In her retirement, she enjoyed many hobbies, such as basket weaving, quilting, crocheting, and baking. In 2008 at the age of 82, she moved to Brevard, North Carolina, and for the last six years was a resident in assisted living at College Walk Retirement Community.
A funeral service will take place on November 18, 2023 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care, Albemarle, NC with visitation at 1:00 PM, followed by a service in the chapel at 2:00 PM. Interment followed at Randall United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Four Seasons the Care You Trust (Hospice), 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
