Vernon Clyde Whitley,'s Obituary
Vernon
Clyde Whitley, Jr., 66, of New London, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019 in
his home. His funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 at Prospect
Baptist Church with Pastor Stoney Benfield and Pastor Donald Ray Johnson
officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive
friends in the church from Noon until 1:30 prior to the service.
Born August 21, 1953 in San
Diego, CA, he was the son of Margie Everhart Whitley of Albemarle and the late
Vernon Clyde Whitley Sr. He was a retired First Sergeant with the NC State
Highway Patrol. An active member of Prospect Baptist Church, Mr. Whitley loved
serving in the church and playing in the Prospect Baptist Church Praise Band.
He enjoyed playing mandolin and guitar, working on vehicles and coaching
childrens? sports teams. He was a family man and loved his wife and children
dearly.
Mr. Whitley is survived by his
wife of 27 years, Donna Nichols Whitley, daughters Magan Greene of Albemarle,
Amanda Whitley of Oakboro, Nikki Whitley of New London, and son Alex C. Whitley
of New London, sisters Carolyn McCann (Jim) of Portland, Oregon and Sharon Cox
(Sherman) of Troy, and 5 grandchildren.

may be made to Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Prospect Baptist
Church Golden Rule Ministry, 500 Prospect Church Rd., Albemarle, NC 28001.
