Verda M. Cavender's Obituary
Verda Mae West Cavender, 88, of Albemarle, NC, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026, at her home with family after a brief illness.
Verda was born May 9, 1937, in Epperson, TN, to the late Pearl Harold West and Beatrice Edwards West.
Verda was a woman of great faith and a devoted member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Albemarle, NC. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed paper crafting, and had a deep-rooted love of gardening. Verda loved traveling throughout the United States and learning about different cultures and lifestyles. Above all, she treasured time with her family, and her happiest moments were spent when everyone was together.
Verda is survived by her two daughters Patti Brigman of Huntersville, NC and Angela Cavender of Oakboro, NC; her son Daniel Cavender (Lori) of Kannapolis, NC; brother R.B. West (Sandra) of Tellico Plains, TN; sisters Cindy Torbett (Don) of Madisonville, TN; Suzy Holliday of Tellico Plains, TN; and her beloved granddaughter Amanda Brigman of Charlotte, NC and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Verda was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 amazing years, John E. Cavender Jr., and by her brothers, Burkett West, Carson West, Raymond West, Denton West, and David West.
Verda will be remembered for her sweet smile and warm sense of humor, her handmade cards of celebration, support, and encouragement, and her lifelong devotion to serving others. She gave immeasurable love to her family and friends, guided by a deep and abiding faith in God that sustained her through every season of life.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Main Street United Methodist Church, 1100 West Main Street, Albemarle, NC 28001 officiated by Rev. Katie Lineberger. Visitation will immediately follow the service. She will be interred at a later date in a private family service at Salisbury National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Verda Cavender to Main Street United Methodist Church, please designate for the Women in Christ Ministry.
