Toby Roger Burleson's Obituary
Toby Roger Burleson, 83, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A private service was held in celebration of his life.
Born on April 17, 1943, in Stanly County, Toby was the son of the late Walter Newman Burleson and Alma Nance Burleson. He devoted 37 years of his career to working as a book representative, a profession that reflected his lifelong love of reading and learning.
Toby found great joy in books, gardening, and following politics. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, genuine kindness, and gracious nature. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone and never met a stranger. His warm smile, thoughtful conversations, and welcoming heart left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his devoted husband, John Shelton, of Columbia, South Carolina; his nephew, Ritchie Burleson, of Albemarle, North Carolina; and numerous beloved cousins who will cherish his memory.
