Stephen Lamar Ward's Obituary
Stephen Lamar Ward, 73, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, in his home. A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 21, at 2 PM at Coldwater Baptist Church in Concord with Pastor Stony Benfield officiating.
Born May 9, 1950, in Stanly County, Stephen was the son of the late James E. Ward Sr. and the late Mary Ruth Burleson Ward. Stephen attended Albemarle High School and went to work at the age of 16. He worked as a plumber with Sneed Plumbing in Locust most of his life. He trained many crews who now run their own businesses. Stephen always left a lasting impression on his loved ones. He stood for the true definitions of love, loyalty, and integrity in work and in life. He never tolerated wrongdoing regardless of whether he was with family or friends. Respect was an important character trait to Stephen. He respected others and required the same in return. Always had the desire to do things better and never would settle for second best, “when you fall short, you fall short, that’s the bottom line” Did not ever matter what the case or the situation was he made sure accountability was always met. Steve will never be forgotten nor the things he stood for; he will be missed by all whoever knew him.
He is survived by his nephews, James Michael Ward (Amy) of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Todd Smith (Susie) of Albemarle, and David Smith (Jane) of Winston, GA, sister, Linda Forsythe (Bob) of Norwood, and niece, Mary Beth Ringgenberg of Harrisburg, NC. In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by his brother, James E. Ward, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care.
Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care of Albemarle is serving the Ward family.
