Stephen Tevis Smith's Obituary
Stephen Tevis Smith passed away at his residence at the age of 56.
Steve is predeceased by his grandparents John Wayne and Lucille Smith, Dolen E. and Margaret Almond, all former residents of Albemarle.
Steve is survived by his parents Tevis and Ellen Smith of Albemarle, NC, and his three sisters; Maria (John) Ray of New London, NC; Emily (Don) Mitchell of Murfreesboro, TN, and Stephanie (Dennis) Farias of Reno, Nevada.
Steve is lovingly remembered by niece Kamden Leigh Huckabee of Charleston, SC, and four nephews-Isaac Mitchell of Tempe, AZ, Nathaniel and Zachary Mitchell of Murfreesboro, TN, and Lukas Farias of Reno, NV.
Steve was born in Albemarle, NC, on October 26, 1964. He graduated from Maryville High School in Maryville, TN, in 1983. He worked as a forklift operator at Rubbermaid in Tennessee before relocating to Albemarle as an employee of Metal Forge. Steve was currently employed at East Albemarle Xpress Lube.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corp with four years active duty and an additional two in the Marine Reserves. While serving, Steve was awarded the Rifle Markmanship Badge, the Good Conduct Medal and a Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Corporal S.T. Smith was awarded a Meritorious Mast on December 8, 1987, which stated His actions reflect great credit upon himself and his unit and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps.
Steve was an avid fan of 80's rock bands with Journey at the top of his list of favorites. Steve rescued numerous stray dogs and could not stand to see an animal suffering. His dogs were the children he never had and he devoted much of his life making sure that his dogs had a home where they were loved and respected.
Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends and his adopted family members at Xpress Lube-Tony, Allen, Justin and all his co-working buddies. His warm smile and kind spirit brought joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His humble perspective on life found both pride and pleasure in vacuuming cars, gauging tires, and washing windows at Xpress Lube.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages all memorial donations to be sent to the Stanly County Humane Society to continue Steve's lifelong compassion for the welfare of animals:
