Stephen Wayne Austin's Obituary
Stephen Wayne Austin, 63, of Albemarle, died Friday evening, December 9, 2016 from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident in Virginia Beach, VA. Steve was born January 31, 1953, to the late Thomas Coleman and Callie Louvine Austin and was a lifelong resident of Albemarle. He was a graduate of North Stanly High School in 1971 and studied at Pfeiffer University for a short period of time. Steve honorably served his country overseas in England with the U.S. Air Force. During his time in the service, Steve traveled to several different European countries and his many experiences there helped shape the fine man that he had become. Steve later joined his father and became owner and operator of T.C. Austin and Son, Inc. His personality and passion for working outdoors allowed him to meet people from all walks of life. Steve never met a stranger and always engaged anyone who crossed his path with a warm smile. He was a kind gentle soul who touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Ann Austin, of Albemarle; his daughter, Sarah Austin-Blue of Virginia Beach; his son, John Windsor Austin of the home; grandson, Landen Asher Blue of Virginia Beach; sisters Cheryl Austin Hicks and husband Joe Hicks of Wingate; Cynthia Austin Lord and husband Pat Lord of New London; a brother, Ed Austin and wife Camille Austin of Albemarle; one aunt, Ruby Napier of New London and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Services will be held Sunday, December 18 at 2pm at Stanly Funeral Home Chapel. Jay Weemhoff will officiate. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory. After the funeral, the family is receiving friends at the Kendall's Baptist Church fellowship hall to celebrate and honor Steve's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stephen W. Austin family at 606 Knollwood Circle, Albemarle NC 28001
