Shirley Morton Bowers' Obituary
Shirley Morton Bowers, 89, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025, at North Albemarle Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Brandon Bowers and Pastor Jonathan Blaylock. Burial will follow in the Canton Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Born on July 25, 1936, in Stanly County, Shirley was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Morton. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was marked by faith, creativity, and love for her family.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Rhonda Morgan (Joe) of New London, Chris Bowers (Robin) of Albemarle, and Angie Hudson (Kelly) of Hickory; grandchildren: Charity Curlee (Cary), Torrey Morgan (Tiffany), Brandon Bowers (Jessica), Trent Bowers (Kim), Angel Hudson, and Rachel Hudson; great-grandchildren: Colten Curlee, Jenna Curlee, Eli Curlee, Tilley Morgan, Elin Bowers, Ella Bowers, Zeb Bowers, Aubree Bowers, and Zion Raquet; and her great-great-grandchild, Luna Curlee. She is also survived by her sister, Lucy Eudy.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Dean Bowers, who passed away in 2017; and her siblings: Virginia Whitley, Bernice Huneycutt, Inez Harvel, Naomi Haigler, Patricia Scott, Ezra Morton, Hoover Morton, and Dale Morton.
Shirley was known as a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. A talented seamstress throughout her life, she lovingly created wedding dresses, dolls, and countless handmade items for family and friends. She shared her love of music by singing in church and as a member of the “Morton Sisters,” recording music together. Shirley also enjoyed watching birds, gardening, canning, and traveling, especially trips to Fort Caswell Beach. She and her husband enjoyed attending auctions together and were deeply involved in their church, where Shirley faithfully served through Sunday School teaching and the bus ministry.
