Seng Vang Xiong's Obituary
Seng Vang Xiong, born in 1942 in Qab Pejthuam, Roob Nyuj Qus, Luam Phab Npas (Village of Stupa, Kiukacham, Luang Prabang, Laos), to Boua Neng Xiong and Kia Thao, gently departed this world on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the age of 81, in Concord, North Carolina, surrounded by his cherished family and friends.
Seng was the devoted husband of Chu Vang, with whom he shared a marriage of nearly six decades, beginning in 1965. Together, they lovingly raised eleven children—nine sons and two daughters. In the late 1960s, Seng proudly served as a soldier under his father's command in their Hmong village. The upheaval in their homeland eventually led the family to seek refuge and a new life abroad. In 1979, they resettled in Oregon, and in 1982, they moved to Merced, California, where Seng, undeterred by language barriers, earned a diploma. His pursuit of better opportunities for his family later brought him to Albemarle, North Carolina, in 1996.
Seng was known for his compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. He was always ready to offer assistance to those going through difficult times and extend support to the less fortunate. Seng was unforgettable. Everywhere he went, he left a strong and lasting impression. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as enjoying his morning coffee, playing the flute, and visiting local stores. He was also fondly remembered for his lengthy speeches, where he shared wisdom and life stories with those around him.
Seng Vang Xiong is survived by his beloved wife, Chu Vang; his seven sons and their spouses: Chai Xiong, Teng Xiong, Jua Xiong, John Xiong and Nancy Xiong, Russell Xiong and Cynthia Cha, Phong Xiong, and Thai Xiong and Molly Vang; his two daughters and their spouses: Mindy Vang and Yong Vang, and Lee Xiong and Van Yang; his brother, Tu Xiong; and his sisters, Mao Yang, Sai Lee, Mai Chou Xiong, Bay Xiong, Mai Ie Xiong, Jer Ann Xiong, and Kha Xiong. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Seng's enduring legacy of kindness and generosity will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The visitation and memorial services will take place at Camp John J. Barnhardt, 44184 Cannon Rd, New London, NC 28127, from Friday, September 20, 2024, to Sunday, September 22, 2024, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing for 24 hours. The burial will follow at 10 a.m. at Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 E Main St, Albemarle, NC 28001.
