Saundra & Don Swaringen's Obituary
Don Basil Swaringen passed away at Atrium Health Cabarrus on Friday, December 22 nd ,
2023 at the age of 86. His wife Saundra (Sandy) Diane Russell Swaringen passed away
shortly after him on Thursday, February, 8 th , 2024 at the age of 83.
Mr. and Mrs. Swaringen were married for 67 years.
They are lovingly remembered by their 7 grandchildren: Jamie Lynne Swaringen
Morton of Richfield, Keri Tucker of New London, Don Basil Swaringen III of New
London, Randi Cook (Brad) of Dobson, Hannah Swaringen of Mooresville, Anna
Swaringen of Salisbury, and Ciera Swaringen of Richfield. Other grandchildren include
Mary Jane Cranford, Lilie Pearl Morton, and Ellie Lynne Morton, as well as 8 other
great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Swaringen were preceded in death by a son, Don
Basil Swaringen II, and a daughter, Judith Lynne Swaringen. Mr. Swaringen is the son
of Delma Swaringen and Mary Wilhoit Swaringen. He was preceded in death by
siblings, Robert Swaringen and Eleanor Swaringen Suggs. Mrs. Swaringen is the
daughter of Floyd Douglas Russell and Goldwyn Beeker Smith Russell. She is survived
by sister, Susie Griffin, and brothers Doug Russell and Jimmy Russell.
Don was born in Albemarle, North Carolina on November 1, 1937. Sandy was born in
Albemarle, North Carolina on December 26, 1940. They both attended Albemarle
Senior High School where they met and fell in love. They married in 1956. Both went
on to own Auto Supply Co. in Albemarle.
Mr. Swaringen enjoyed gardening and fishing. Mrs. Swaringen enjoyed crafting,
sewing, antiques, and gardening.
Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care 1835 Badin Road, Albemarle NC, 28001 is
handling the care of Mr. and Mrs. Swaringen. A memorial service wil be held by the
family at a later date.
