Sarla Menon's Obituary
Sarla Menon, 94, of Oakboro, North Carolina, left this earth on May 9, 2026, surrounded by God’s presence and the love of her family.
Sarla was born on December 2, 1931, in India to Dr. Dukhbhanjan Lal Sachdeva and Shyam Devi Sethi Sachdeva. She served others through her nursing career in the Indian Army, later leading a nursing school in India, and eventually continuing her calling in the United States as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Educator in Maryland.
She was gentle yet strong in her nurturing spirit, encouraging growth in everyone God placed along her path. Sarla was as intentional in her living as she was in her passing. She enjoyed getting to know people and hearing their life stories. She loved board games, especially Scrabble, where she often won. She also loved her entire extended family dearly, both here in the United States and spread across the world.
Sarla is survived by her daughter, Anjana Menon Young, and her grandchildren, Evan Young and Tiffany Menon Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. M.K.K. Menon.
A memorial service will be held at Gurdwara Sahib Charlotte later this month.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to all of her caregivers and physicians during her declining health. They were truly man’s hands doing God’s work. The family also wishes to thank Tillery Compassionate Care and Senior Helpers of Monroe for the exceptional support shown to Sarla and her family during this time.
Sarla Menon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
