Ruby Austin Napier's Obituary
On September 16, 2021, Ruby Austin Napier passed away peacefully at her home after a period of declining health. Born January 27, 1932, to Walter and Nellie Lowder Austin, Ruby was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 65 years James Napier, her brothers JB Austin, Dan Austin, Leo Austin, Harold “Bud” Austin, and her sister Callie “Beanie” Austin. Ruby is survived by children Stan (Nancy) Napier and Phillip (Ruby) Napier of New London and grandchildren Chase (Maria) Napier, Lauren (Quentin) Tyson, Wayne (Chasidy) Napier, and Jessica (Mark) Morgan. She leaves great-grandchildren Sophia Napier, Bishop Tyson, Isaac Napier, Raegan Napier, and Ava-Lee Morgan, along with several nieces and nephews, especially her niece Cynthia Austin, her caretaker and “daughter she never had.” Ruby served her Lord at Second Street Presbyterian Church as organist and choir director for over 60 years. God gifted her to be an avid gardener, exquisite cook, and giver of hospitality. She was extremely creative, especially with floral arrangements and bows. The epitome of toughness, Ruby did not let her vision impairment deter her from doing what she loved, and she could outwork most people even into her 80’s. Ruby was most generous and went out of her way to make sure birthdays and holidays were special.
A special thanks goes to niece Cynthia Lord and Hospice for their loving care. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Second Street Presbyterian Church followed by interment at Salem United Methodist Church.
The family requests that any memorials be made to Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie (hospiceofstanly.org) or Second Street Presbyterian Church 103 East Hearne St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
