Ruby Montgomery Hendley Murray, 105, of Mt. Gilead passed away June 19, 2017 at Spring Arbor of Albemarle.? Her memorial service will be Friday June 23, 2017 at 3:00 PM in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lanny Lancaster officiating.? The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care from 2:00 until 3:00 PM prior to the hour of the service.
Born June 8, 1912 in Anson County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Branch Hendley and Minnie Ross Hendley.? Mrs. Murray was a veteran of the US Navy during WWII. ?She served with the U. S Navy Hospital Corps and was stationed in Key West, Florida, New Orleans, Louisiana, Memphis, Tennessee and Newport, Arkansas.? She attended the Medical College of Virginia and graduated from Pfeiffer College in 1949.? She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse having worked at Yadkin Hospital in Albemarle and in Chicago, Illinois as a Private Duty Nurse.? She was a member of Stony Hill United Methodist Church.
She was married to the late Sidney Murray who preceded her in death January 18, 2008.? Survivors include nieces Jean Hendley of Mt. Gilead and Nancy Vasser of Badin, 3 great nephews, James R. Hendley III, J. D. Hendley and Jacob Vasser, 5 great-great nephews and 1 great-great niece.? A brother James Ross Hendley Sr. and a nephew James Ross Hendley Jr. preceded her in death.
