Ruby Mae Cook's Obituary
Mrs. Ruby Mae Dollar Cook, age 77, of Monroe, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at CMC-Union of Monroe.
Funeral Services to celebrate her life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at West Monroe Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Gary Underwood. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
Mrs. Cook was born on October 19, 1936, in Durham, to the late John William Dollar and Ruby Bobbitt Dollar Helton. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Helton and Donald Helton.
She was educated in Durham Schools at George Watts Elementary, Carr Junior High, and Durham High School, where she graduated in 1955. She has always kept in touch with a lot of her school friends, especially at class reunions every five years.
She was a member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Durham when growing up. After moving to Monroe in 1969, she joined West Monroe Baptist Church, which she dearly loved and has so many friends there.
She was married to Ernest Donald Cook for 38 years until his death in 1995.
She worked in insurance all of her adult life. She was with Crum and Forster in Durham, then Blue Cross Blue Shield. After her children grew up, she went to work at Crum and Forster in Charlotte. She retired from there in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, David Cook and wife, Holly, Rodney Cook, all of Monroe; two grandsons, Zachary Cook and Nathan Cook, both of Monroe; two brothers, Reverend Eddie Dollar and wife, Paula, of Durham, Kenneth Ray Helton of Durham; one sister, Carolyn McKinney of Durham.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 23, 2014, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service, at West Monroe Baptist Church.
The family asks that donations be made to West Monroe Baptist Church Building Fund or to West Monroe Baptist Church Bus Fund. Donations may be mailed to 1212 Icemorlee Street; Monroe, North Carolina 28110.
