Roy Springer's Obituary
Roy Springer, 98, of 305 Park Ridge Road, Spring Arbor, Albemarle, NC passed away at 3:55 PM Friday, May 3rd, 2019 at Liberty Hospice House, VA Medical Center, Salisbury, NC, with his family at his side.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 7th,
6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care of Albemarle. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May
8th at 2:00 PM at Albemarle Wesleyan Church. Rev. James Valk and Rev. Michael Greer will
officiate. Burial will take place in
Fairview Memorial Park, with full Military Rites.
Mr. Springer was born October 13, 1920 in Stanly County, and
was the son of the late Clarence J. and Ollie Talbert Springer.
Mr. Springer was a lifelong member of the Albemarle Wesleyan
Church, (formerly the Pilgrim Holiness Church) and was a Word War II Veteran,
proudly serving in General Patton?s Army.
He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was wounded during fierce combat in Germany in 1944 and was treated
for his injuries in both England and Scotland before returning to the United
States where he received treatment in New York and 1st Indorsement
Welch Convalescent Hospital, Daytona Beach.
He was Honorably Discharged June 7th, 1945. He was a Life Time member of the Stanly
County DAV.
He was married for 52 years to the former Willie Ramelle
Davis, who preceded him in death in 1991, as did his infant son, Ricky Joe
Springer in 1941. Mr. Springer is
survived by his son Roy William Springer, wife Peggy, one granddaughter, the
love of his life, Tonya Springer Graeff, husband Shawn, one great granddaughter
Riley Davis Graeff all of Albemarle. He
is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, infant son, parents, Mr. Springer
was predeceased by four sisters, Blanche Chandler Vanhoy, Pearline Huneycutt,
Ruby Jordan, Goldie Holt, and two brothers Wilton Springer and Nevin Springer.
The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to
Albemarle Wesleyan Church Building Fund or Stanly County Chapter of DAV.
