Roberta "Dawn" Springer Vanhoy's Obituary
Roberta "Dawn" Springer Vanhoy, 62, of New London, NC, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026, at her home.
Dawn was born February 19, 1964, in Washington DC to Ned Barrier and Linda York Barrier of Albemarle. She was a graduate of North Stanly High School and dedicated much of her life to caring for others. She formerly worked as a CNA at Spring Arbor and was currently employed with Hwy 49 Sporting Goods, where she had faithfully worked for many years.
A member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Albemarle, Dawn lived her life guided by faith, family, and kindness. She loved singing and treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. Dawn was a horse owner and a devoted cat lover. She took great pride in keeping her home clean and organized and was known for her caring nature and strong work ethic. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing basketball.
In addition to her parents, Dawn is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Lyvon Vanhoy of the home; sons, Matthew S. McKeithan of Albemarle and Joseph D. Whitley and wife, Samantha, of Albemarle; daughter, Jessica Dawn Whitley of Albemarle; stepsons, Cameron Troutman of Albemarle and Joshua Smith and wife, Joy, of Greensboro; brothers, John Cord and wife, Amy, and Scott Cord and wife, Mandy, all of Albemarle; and grandchildren, Colton Whitley, Ayla Whitley, Joshua Smith, and Mary Joy Smith.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care, 1835 Badin Road, Albemarle, NC. There will be no formal services.
