Robert (Bob) Thompson's Obituary
Mr. Robert (Bob) Luther Thompson, age 94, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, passed away Sunday morning, April 14, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Bob Thompson will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday (April 18, 2013) at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, officiated by Reverend Lynda Ferguson.
Interment will follow in the Bethlehem UMC Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday, prior to the ceremony at Bethlehem UMC.
Mr. Thompson was born on August 16, 1918, in Union County, NC, to the late William Luther (WL) Thompson and Bertha Deese Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Ralph Thompson (1986), his sister, Marcell Couick and his two brothers, Hoyt and John Thompson.
Bob was the owner and mechanic of Thompson's Garage, and later was a poultry and livestock farmer.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Thomasine (Tommie) Mosley Thompson, daughter Sondra Thompson Welles and husband Peter of Owings Mills, MD, son Robert Larry Thompson and wife Maggie of Waxhaw, daughter in law and loving caregiver Jenny Thompson Gay and husband David of Waxhaw, a sister Pat Coggin of Charlotte, seven grandchildren: Amanda Welles, Christina Maron, Wendy D'Oleo, Heather Florczyk, Bobby Thompson, David Thompson and Amy Thompson as well as eight great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 5300 Nesbit Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173 and to Hospice of Union County, 700 West Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
During his lifetime, Bob was patriotic, well read and had a myriad of interests including ironworking, woodworking, genealogy, collecting old books and the Republican Party. He was an extraordinary mechanic and very industrious which led to many practical and sometimes humorous inventions. He had a great sense of humor, a mischievous smile and called all his cows Sam. He was blessed with a long fruitful life, was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
