Richard "Rickey" Grady Bailey's Obituary
Richard “Rickey” Grady Bailey, 68, of New London, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by the love of his family.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Faith Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Gene Mullis, Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
Born on September 11, 1957, in McDowell County, Rickey was the son of the late Grady and Evelyn Bailey.
Rickey shared 45 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Rebecca Carter Bailey, who survives him. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Sandy Burris (David), Brandon Bailey (Natalie), and Shelby Cagwin (Calvin); his beloved grandchildren, Payton Burris (Joni), Kevin Burris (Elizabeth), Laikyn Bailey, Carter Cagwin, Drake Bailey, Casen Bailey, and Maverick Orengo-Bailey; his treasured great-grandchildren, Paige, Kinsley, Stella, and Bodie; three stepchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Earl Bailey, Joann Bailey, Zane Bailey, and Barbara Loftis (Rickey); along with many extended family members and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Rickey was preceded in death by his siblings, Irene Taylor, Troy Bailey, Ronnie Bailey, and Joyce Morgan.
Rickey was a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of his life. He was a man of great character who consistently placed the needs of others before his own. Known for his warm sense of humor and playful spirit, he had a remarkable ability to bring peace to any situation and a smile to those around him. He found joy in God's creation and loved spending time outdoors, especially taking trips to the mountains. More than anything, Rickey treasured his family. Whether sharing laughter, offering encouragement, or simply being together, he considered time spent with those he loved to be life's greatest blessing. His unwavering faith, selfless heart, and gentle spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the compassionate staff of Atrium Health Cabarrus and Atrium Health Pineville, as well as Pastor Gene and the members of Faith Free Will Baptist Church, for the love, prayers, care, and support shown to Rickey throughout his declining health.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 34915 Locust Lane, Locust, NC 28127.
Though Rickey's earthly journey has come to an end, the steadfast faith he lived by, the love he so freely shared, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and servant's heart will remain an enduring legacy. His memory will continue to bring comfort, inspiration, and peace to all who knew and loved him.
