Richard (Nick) Hope Bowlin's Obituary
Richard “Nick” Hope Bowlin, 93, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Nick was born on March 7, 1933, in Charlotte, NC, to the late Columbus Lum Bowlin and Catherine Stephens Bowlin. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Jane Davis Bowlin; brother, Jimmy L Bowlin; and sister, Ann Bowlin Lovern. Nick dedicated more than 28 years of his life to working as a print press operator.
A funeral service celebrating Nick’s life will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 2528 Stack Road, Monroe, NC 28112, officiated by Rev. Jason Myers. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial, with military rites, will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
Nick found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors caring for his yard and was a devoted fan of Carolina basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He especially enjoyed visiting local restaurants around Monroe, where he never met a stranger and treasured the friendships and conversations shared along the way. Above all, Nick’s greatest love was his family.
He was also a lifelong train enthusiast and treasured the train set he purchased the year he and Betty were married, a hobby that brought him enjoyment throughout his life. In addition, Nick faithfully served his community for many years as a volunteer firefighter with the Stack Road Volunteer Fire Department.
Those left to cherish his memory are his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Nick loved his family deeply and considered his nieces and nephews as his own children, sharing a special bond with each of them.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Building Fund, 2528 Stack Road, Monroe, NC 28112.
Davis Chapel-Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care is serving the Bowlin family.
