Rev. Ray Moon's Obituary
Rev. Ray Moon, 80, of Albemarle, NC passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. His funeral will be 11 AM Saturday, February 20, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Otis Goins, Rev. Lonnie Poole, and Rev. Clay Davis officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 PM till 8 PM.
Born February 22, 1935 in Randolph County, he was the son of the late Walter Lee Moon and Ethel Beck Moon. After high school, Ray received an Associate Degree from Piedmont Bible College where he entered into the ministry.
He was a member of Welcome Baptist Church where he pastored for 31 years. Ray also pastored two other churches in North Carolina; Faith Baptist Church in White Oak, and Westfield Baptist Church in Thomasville. His home church was Richland Baptist Church in Asheboro. ?Aside from his pastoral ministry, Ray enjoyed carpentry projects and working in the yard.
He was married 60 years to the living Carolyn Louise Venable Moon of the home. Other survivors include two sons, Bobby Ray Moon (Laurie) of Cary, NC, and Christopher Rynn Moon (Terri) of Albemarle, four brothers, James Moon of Burlington, NC, Grady Moon of Asheboro, Harold Moon of Asheboro, and step-brother, Raeford Cox of Asheboro. Ray is also survived by five grandchildren, Bryan Moon (Caity) of Raleigh, NC, Garrett Loyd Moon of Cary, NC, Dillon Ray Moon, Rachel Lee Moon, and Carter Jay Moon all of Albemarle.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie at 960 N 1st St, Albemarle, NC 28001.
