Ray Edward Doby Jr.'s Obituary
Ray Edward Doby, Jr., 84, of Albemarle passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024. A Memorial service will be held Friday, March 15 at 6 PM at Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care in Albemarle with Reverend Darrell Nance officiating.
Born November 23, 1939 in Stanly County, Ray was the son of the late Ray Edward Doby, Sr. and the late Lucille Crawly Doby. He was a graduate of Albemarle High School class of 1958. Many knew Ray by the name of “Eddie” or “Snabbers” originating from his fielding skills playing baseball. He continued to show his love of the game by playing and coaching in many leagues across the county. Snabbers was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time on the lake.
He is survived by his wife Sharon Doby of Albemarle and daughters, Crystal Bowers (Steve) of Albemarle, and Ginger Burris (Todd) of Albemarle. He is also survived by grandchildren Banner Smith, Kaitlin Burris, and Kinsley Fore (Eric), great-grandchildren Jacob Jordan, Olivia Hegler (Shea), Nicholas Smith, Jaxon and Austin Fore, and one great-great-grandchild, Ollie Hegler.
In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by his brother, Shannon Doby.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care at 960 N. First St. Albemarle, NC 28001.
