Ramona Lee Boggess' Obituary
Ramona Lee Boggess, 86, of Albemarle went peacefully to her Heavenly home on July 28. 2023 from her home in Albemarle NC. Her memorial service will be 3 PM on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at White Crest Baptist Church with Rev. Ken McRae officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 PM prior to the service at the church.
Born May 15, 1937 in, Raleigh County, WV she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Workman and India Myrtle Hendricks. She was a homemaker and attended White Crest Baptist Church. She enjoyed bingo, puzzles, and cooking for others. She loved spending time with her family and she loved caring for others. At Matthews Place, Mrs. Boggess was in charge of celebrating the birthdays of the residents and she served as a volunteer activity coordinator for the community. Ramona spent most of her working years in the retail industry. One of her accomplishments was becoming a certified 18 wheel semi truck driver, completing a truck driver training program in Ohio. She also obtained her GED diploma after she retired from working.
Mrs. Boggess was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Edward Boggess. Survivors include children James Boggess (Colleen) of Mt. Gilead, NC, Pam Pettry (Randy) of Frankfort, KY, and Mimi Coleman (Mike) of Mt. Gilead, NC, step-daughter Phyllis Jean Romaniw (Bob) of Hinkley, OH, dear friends of the family, Roger Lewis of Mount Holly, NC, and Marcella Rutherford (Chuck) of Mt. Gilead, NC, sibilings Phyllis Dickens of LaGrange, OH, Violet Maynard (Lloyd) of Jackson, OH, Susan Walker of Cleveland, OH, 4 grandchildren Adam Pettry (John) of Atlanta, GA, Travis Pettry (Alicia) of Crestwood, KY. Cody Rutherford (Alisha) of Norwood, NC, Heather Chism (Kalix) of Jacksonville, NC, and 5 great-grandchildren Isabella Rutherford, Eli Aaron Pettry, Layla Pettry, Hazel Pettry, and Mason Edward Rutherford (due December 2023). Also surviving is her beloved caregiver and friend Alexus Page as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Larry Workman and a sister Lorena Zalonis.
