Born on August 8, 1929, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, Ramelle was the daughter of the late Hattie Jane Rummage. She was a faithful member of Annunciation Catholic Church and retired as office manager for Service Distributing in Albemarle after many years of dedicated service.
Ramelle will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She possessed a remarkable work ethic, beginning her first job at just ten years old, and carried that spirit of determination and responsibility throughout her life. She genuinely cared for others and always placed her family at the center of her heart.
Known affectionately as “Mimi” by her grandchildren, she created countless cherished memories with them. Among their favorites were special trips to Hardee’s followed by adventures through K-Mart, simple moments that became treasured family traditions. Ramelle also had a lifelong love of reading and was especially fond of mystery novels. Family members often joked that she had read every mystery book in the Stanly County Public Library.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommie Collins Staton, who passed away in 2008.
She is survived by her son, George C. Staton and wife, Kathy, of Albemarle; her daughter, Janie S. Hatley and husband, Terry, of Albemarle; grandchildren, Whitney Moore (Justin), Adam Hatley (Kelsie), Brian Staton (Jessica), and Jake Staton (Samantha); and great-grandchildren, Bentley Morris, Dawson Staton, Eli Staton, Ella Staton, Landon Staton, Chesnee Hatley, and Madi Kate Hatley.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Taylor House for the exceptional care, kindness, and companionship they provided to Mrs. Staton. As the Taylor House's oldest resident for many years, she was deeply loved and cared for by those who became like family to her. The family also extends their sincere appreciation to the caregivers of Tillery Compassionate Care for their support and compassionate service.
Ramelle’s kindness, unwavering devotion to her family, and the countless memories she created will continue to be treasured by all who knew and loved her.
