Peggy Napier Thompson's Obituary
It is with great love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peggy Napier Thompson who departed this life peacefully on May 17th, 2025, at the age of 92.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2025, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. John Black. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 PM at the funeral home prior to service.
Born in Alamance County, NC, Peggy was the daughter of the late Douglas Wynn David Smith Napier and Maggie Barentine Napier. A longtime member of Second Street Presbyterian Church, she was deeply involved in church life and was told often that she “had the prettiest voice in the choir” but Peggy never took credit for it and practiced diligently.
Peggy was a devoted wife to J.E. Thompson, a loving mother and grandmother who cherished her family and friends. She traveled all around the world raising her children, alongside her husband in the Navy. After settling in Albemarle, she continued her work as a beautician at Elite Beauty Salon with her loving friends Gale Whitley & Debbie Chaney.
A woman of resilience, Peggy faced many challenges with grace. She was known for her gentle spirit, listening ear, and warm heart. She faithfully and joyfully raised four children while creating a home filled with fun, love, and stability. She shared a deep bond with her sisters and brothers, all strong women & men who supported one another throughout life.
Known for her resilience, her quick wit, and her gentle strength, Peggy was the kind of woman who made everyone feel at home. She loved her family fiercely, played a sharp game of Bunco, and could not go for long without a Mexican Coke, some candy, and her favorite tv shows: Everybody Loves Ramond and anything with Tom Selleck in it. She found joy in simple moments and gave love without conditions.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, J.E. Thompson, and son, Ronald Thompson, as well as siblings Helen Mauldin, Ike Napier, Laura Clark, Jimmy Napier, Pete Napier, and John Wayne Napier.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Douglas Edward Thompson (Lou) of Denver, NC; Eric Shawn Thompson
(Christina) of Rock Hill, SC and Helen Michele Thompson of Albemarle, NC; four grandchildren: Douglas Drew Thompson (Ellie), Maggie Thompson Paolucci (Anthony), Madison Edward Gram, and Lila Grace Thompson; and three great-grandchildren: Charlotte Thompson, Parker Thompson, and Hazel Thompson. and many more who were touched by her kindness and spirit. Peggy’s Legacy of love, strength, and kindness lives on in each of them. She is now reunited with her beloved husband and those who passed before her.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure. She is loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude with love, for taking care of our Mom, to Synthia Austin Lord BSN, Dr. Christoper Poor, Dr. Andrew Nance, Brenda Chengalis BSN, Melissa Billups NP, Lisa Eaves MSN, Melissa Morgan, Michael Whaley, Dustin Britt RT and all the rest of the medical staff that have been a part of her journey.
