Paul Richard Compher, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Paul Richard Compher, Jr., age 86, of Pineville, NC, passed away quietly on Friday, February 14, 2014, at The Laurels in Pineville.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday April 26, 2014 at Davis Funeral Chapel in Monroe, NC. Interment will be at later date in New Jerusalem Cemetery in Lovettsville, Virginia.
Mr. Compher was born on August 27, 1927, in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Paul Richard Compher, Sr. and Sylvia Funkhouser Compher. He lived in Garrett Park, Maryland until he moved to North Carolina in 1997.
Richard attended Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda, Maryland and George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He then served four years in the United States Army, serving in Korea. He was a steamfitter for over 45 years in Washington, D.C. He was a member of Steamfitters Local Union 602. He traveled extensively in his retirement.
Survivors include one brother, Reverend Robert Reid Compher of Birmingham, Alabama and one sister, Patricia Compher James of Waxhaw, NC; and nine nieces and nephews, Patricia James Hale, Beverly James Graves, Dennis James, Quentin James, Linda James Valentine, David Compher, Douglas Compher, Katherine Compher Cocks, and Robert Compher. There are sixteen great-nieces and nephews, and seventeen great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service Saturday from 1:30 PM until 2:45 PM at Davis Funeral Home; 1003 East Franklin Street in Monroe.
